Zion 150

While the year 2017 will mark the 150th anniversary of our historic Zion church building, 2015 is the actual 150th anniversary of the organization of our congregation. As 2017 is also the 500th anniversary of the reformation, this period is definitely an opportune time for remembering how far we’ve come: celebrating our past, who we are right now and believing in God’s future for us.  Our 150th Anniversary Leadership Team has formed and has been meeting to discuss the scope of the upcoming celebration.

A reunion weekend took place Labor Day weekend. Additional events and activities are being planned for the months following the reunion. Please join us if you are interested in becoming involved in a large or small way in this important event. Contact Kay H. or Laura C. for more information. at zion150th@gmail.com

150th Anniversary Update  (From Agape Newsletter, November 2015)

The 150th Anniversary Leadership Committee would like to thank everyone who took part in October's Chili Cook-off.  We geatly appreciate those who entered their chilies, as well as those who came to do the tasting.  A big "thank you" also goes out to those who prepared salads and desserts and stayed afterward to help with clean-up.  After all of the votes were cast, or the beans in this case, we had a tie for first place.  Our first place chefs were Gary and Kitty Koch and Kurt Kowalski!

The Chili Cook-off, however, wasn't all about the food, or even the friendly competition.  It was also an opportunity to raise funds for Rippling Hope, an organization in Detroit helping those in need.  The people of Zion are truly generous, and on that Sunday during fellowship hour, we collected over $200 for this imprtant ministry.

Our next scheduled event is German Sunday, which will take place on Sunday, November 1st.  On  this day, we will be remembering Zion's German Heritage during worship, as well as during fellowship hour.  During our worship service, you will hear parts spoken in German, just as it was here not all that many years ago.  Afterward, please join us in the fellowship hall for some German treats and coffee.  If you'd like to help in any way, please contact Kay H. or Laura C. at  www.zion150th@gmail.com

On Saturday, December 5th, we'll be decorating the church for the holidays, 9:00am until noon.  Plans for Christmas caroling are also in the works.  Please watch for updates on both activities in the Sunday bulletins.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th, at 8:00am.  As always, all are welcome to attend and share ideas for celebrating Zion's 150th anniversary.
